Position Summary
As an Engineering Librarian , you will provide research and teaching support to faculty, staff, and students in the University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences ( SEAS ). You will be part of the Science & Engineering Library Services ( SELS ) team. The specific areas that you will cover in this position will depend upon your interests and expertise. As an Engineering Librarian, your primary duties will include: Providing research support to faculty and students in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences ( SEAS ). Designing and teaching curriculum-integrated instruction sessions in a variety of formats to meet the needs of diverse user groups. Providing reference and research consultation services in-person, virtually, or through electronic communication for students, faculty, staff, and outside researchers. Collaborating with fellow team members to develop new services and programs in emerging areas of engineering education and research. Communicating current issues and trends in scholarly communication and open access publishing to faculty and staff in relevant disciplines. Building strong collaborative relationships with faculty in SEAS regarding best practices for data management. Demonstrating commitment to continued professional growth and active participation in professional activities and service. Based upon your qualifications, experience, the University’s standards for continuing appointment, and Libraries’ standards in librarianship, service, and scholarship, we anticipate appointing you at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian. You will report to the Head of Science and Engineering Library Services and work with librarians and staff across the University Libraries. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in library and information science, or equivalent, from an ALA -accredited institution. Demonstrated commitment to advancing justice, diversity, inclusion, and equity in organizations. Knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and tools in research or education related to engineering and/or science disciplines. Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize projects, work independently, and collaborate with library and university colleagues. Evidence of the ability to do research, publication, and service consonant with the University at Buffalo’s standards for tenure and promotion.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering, science, or mathematics. Experience working in a STEM based library or with the scientific research community. Experience providing instruction to a range of audiences, including faculty and students. Understanding of current issues surrounding scholarly communication and data management. Familiarity with a coding language such as MATLAB , R, or Python. Engagement in professional and/or subject discipline organizations, research, or publications. Experience with data management across the research lifecycle, including creating, processing, analyzing, preserving, accessing, and reusing research data, either from work experience or through academic coursework.
