Summary of Position:  We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Elementary Librarian to join our team. As the heart of our school's library, you will play a critical role in shaping the love of reading and lifelong learning for our students. The school librarian is a strong leader who fosters an environment of creativity and innovation while providing instructional leadership for the teaching of information literacy skills. The librarian develops and maintains a school library collection. The librarian manages the school library as a flexible, multi-faceted learning environment for grades Older Preschool-5th. Hours of Work: Full time,  Monday – Friday as scheduled / School Year  

Positions Classification: Exempt 

Reporting Relationship: Elementary Principal

Requirements

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy throughout daily interactions with students, faculty and  parents. Comply with the Statement of Faith, the Christian Role Model Expectations, and the VCS Employee Handbook and be committed to upholding them. 
  • Daily teaching students/classes as they are scheduled for visits and during open visiting times
  • Turn in weekly lesson plans that align with the year overview
  • Schedule, Plan and prepare for at least 3 book fairs
  • Be responsible for the daily organization and cleanliness of the library
  • Maintain proper library behavior management
  • Follow school procedures and policies that are set by the Employer. 
  • Demonstrate and commit to excellent communication with students, parents and faculty to maintain the VCS  standard of excellence in all areas of performance. 
  • Proficiency in technology resources and application, knowledge of the operations of all school machines such as  copier, laminating, etc. that are necessary for the completion of the job. 
  • Must be able to deal with confidential information in a professional manner. 
  • Assist students in safety protocol in the event of emergency drills or actual emergency 
  • Complete proper forms per VCS policy, i.e. tallies/demerits, illness report, ouch report, administrative referrals, etc. 
  • Participate in orientations, scheduled in-services, and all departmental meetings.  
  • Physically able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 lbs. Develop, organize, and maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date library collection
  • Teach students how to use the library and how to access information effectively and efficiently
  • Provide individual and group instruction on library and research skills
  • Collaborate with teachers to support the curriculum and promote reading and lifelong learning
  • Plan and conduct programs and events to promote the library and encourage student involvement
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting procedures related to circulation and collection management

  • Affirms that, as part of the qualifications for this position, he/she is a follower of Jesus who knows the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. 
  • Ability to follow the Matthew 18 Principle in dealing with leadership, faculty, administration, and parents. 
  • Regular attendance in a Bible-based church.

  • Experience with library technology and automation systems
  • Ability to integrate technology into library services and programs
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in school librarianship

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Requirements/Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience working with children
  • Some library experience preferred
