East Stroudsburg University is hiring an Electronic Resources Librarian! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. 

As the Electronic Resources Librarian, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable overseeing all digital periodicals, eBooks, and additional electronic resources. You will be an active member of the Kemp Library team and will work closely with the Director to collaborate with vendors, the campus community, library faculty colleagues and staff to ensure uninterrupted access to the Kemp Library’s various electronic resources. In this tenure track faculty role, you will participate in activities including committee memberships, pursuing scholarly interests, curriculum development, and community service. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your library science background and extensive material management experience all while troubleshooting or investigating library resources to deliver excellent service to customers. To be successful in this role the applicant must possess outstanding communication skills, a strong working knowledge of integrated library systems, and have an exceptional attention to detail. 

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Electronic Resources Librarian. There will be 5% travel required for the role. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming. 

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Performs
    all management, coordination, collection development, and troubleshooting for
    the library’s electronic resources, including but not limited to databases,
    journals, and eBooks.
  • Working
    from East Stroudsburg University’s campus, the Electronic Resources Librarian is
    responsible for maintaining the integrated library system (Alma), the discovery
    layer (Primo), and other electronic subscriptions.
  • Implement,
    troubleshoot, and maintain consistent and reliable operation, delivery, and
    access to the library's ILS system, discovery layer, databases, and aggregate
    electronic resources.
  • Develop
    and maintain policies, procedures, and other types of documentation on library
    systems and electronic resources.
  • Build
    and maintain strong professional relationships with vendors, publishers, and
    consortia to obtain product information, including preliminary pricing and
    license terms.
  • Review
    and negotiate contracts and licenses for electronic resources to get favorable
    pricing, terms, and conditions.
  • Create
    and maintain detailed, accurate, and relevant documentation and records (e.g.
    usage statistics) for electronic resource evaluations and acquisitions.
  • Maintain,
    update, and assess workflows for electronic resources related tasks.
  • Participate
    in budgetary oversight by advising on fund allocation.
  • Work
    in collaboration with library staff, faculty, and students to develop,
    implement and assess policies, practices, and technologies designed to enhance
    library resources and services for discovery and sharing.
  • Provide
    reference and instruction services as needed.
  • Collaborate
    with librarians and colleagues across the campus on committees and projects to
    support library services.
  • Performs related work as required.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program.
  • At least 2 years of experience configuring, troubleshooting, and managing back-end functionality in an integrated library system, discovery layer, link resolvers, and proxy servers.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing electronic resources lifecycle activities. (quotes, licensing, access, usage tracking, etc.)
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel. LibApps experience is helpful.
  • Strong attention to detail; Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective time and project management skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
  • Able to think critically and apply critical thinking skills to solve problems independently; make independent decisions that support the needs of the University and its students.
  • Possess the capacity to quickly pivot between work tasks when unplanned events occur that need immediate attention.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
