Electronic Resources & Discovery Librarian

The University of Iowa Law Library is one of the largest academic law libraries in the country with a wonderful, comprehensive physical collection and an extensive electronic collection. Our mission focuses on providing support, access, and preservation of legal resources and information to present and future legal information seekers who include a broad population from the College of Law and University of Iowa to the people of Iowa and researchers around the country and the world.
Reporting to the Head of Electronic Resources & Digital Initiatives, the Electronic Resources & Discovery Librarian is responsible for providing access and support to the Law Library’s electronic resources and providing core support to the library’s internal systems. This includes obtaining and maintaining statistics related to e-resources and collection usage; adding, maintaining, and removing e-resource records; troubleshooting access issues for e-resources in a timely manner; maintaining the library’s A-Z database list and improving its access, including promotion; and training, collaborating, and supporting staff usage of the library’s integrated library system. Additionally, they provide support to the library’s scholarly and digital repositories and work on special technology projects to support innovative initiatives taking place at the Law Library.

Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in operations involving the discoverability and accessibility of electronic resources including support for technical- and systems-related issues; adding new e-resources to the A-Z database list and performing annual updates; proactive monitoring and troubleshooting of e-resources; coordinating renewals and trials; testing online access and arranging for training, professional development, trials, and implementation; training library staff on industry standards and system developments/limitations; seeking ways to increase productivity and efficiency; and collaborating with University staff to ensure consistent standards and guidelines are implemented.
- Maintain Law’s cataloging and holdings records for electronic resources in the Integrated Library System (ILS), Alma. This includes record imports, portfolio creation, record maintenance, inputting licensing information, tracking loading and usage statistics, data analysis and cleanup, troubleshooting problems, and other related activities.
- Create and maintain all order, vendor, bibliographic, and electronic portfolios. Recommending the purchase of cataloging records, when appropriate.
- Assist in the Law Library’s scholarly communications program, which seeks to support and highlight legal scholarship produced at the University of Iowa. This includes working on the Law Library’s contributions to the University’s institutional repository, aiding the Assistant Director for Scholarly Communications & Innovation in creating and maintaining online law faculty profiles, and other related tasks.
- Participate in and support the creation and execution of usability studies to improve the discovery of electronic resources.
- Identify, evaluate, and stay current with emerging trends, resources, practices, and standards in electronic resource and institutional repository management.
- Collaborate with teams and cohorts to coordinate workflow across the library to ensure our collections are as up-to-date and accessible as possible.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Additional job duties as assigned based on individual knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program.
- 0-2 years working in metadata creation, cataloging, and/or electronic resource management in an academic or research library setting; or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work in a team-based setting where consultation, flexibility, collaboration, cooperation, and resilience are essential.
- Ability to manage projects and balance competing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with an integrated library system, preferably Ex Libris ALMA; SpringShare; and/or non-MARC metadata schemas.
- Experience using cataloging tools such as OCLC Connexion, OCLC Record Manager, and MarcEdit.
- Experience with Perma.cc.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Salary: $65,000 – Pay Commensurate with Experience (Pay Level: 4A)
This position is eligible for fully remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
