Position Overview: We are currently seeking a Cross-Divisional Library Assistant, to begin in August, to support our Lower and Middle School Librarians. The Library Assistant works closely with the Librarians, supporting students and teachers, and ensuring that the Library is a welcoming place for all. This position requires a degree of independence and initiative and a willingness to actively support busy libraries and serve as a "help desk" for triage and support of student Chromebooks, and equipment in the respective Makerspaces.


Status: Full-time non-exempt during the academic year (mid-August through mid-June)

Hours:

Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Key Responsibilities: Library

  • Supervise and assist students and faculty with obtaining library materials
  • Check books and other materials in and out
  • Shelve books when they are returned
  • Create thematic book displays
  • Support inventory and weeding processes
  • Provide some "as-needed" cataloging
  • Repair and label books for circulation
  • Support library volunteers

Technology (when working at the circulation desk)

  • Provide the first point of contact and troubleshooting for student Chromebooks
  • Support logistics and recording-keeping for the 1:1 Chromebook program
  • Provide low-level troubleshooting and technical support for faculty
  • Provide support for equipment, including iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, and AV equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in a school library, or other relevant library or classroom experience (preferred)
  • Interest in and/or experience working with lower school and middle school aged students
  • Knowledge of or interest in children's and young adult literature (preferred)
  • Flexibility and a willingness to collaborate
  • Responsiveness and good communication skills
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • The ability to effectively multitask in a busy library
  • Familiarity with Chromebooks/Windows/iOS devices
  • Familiarity with G Suite
  • Experience using spreadsheets
  • Experience with library automation software (preferred)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree and experience (preferred)
