As a Corrections Library Assistant, you will be responsible for monitoring and supporting the daily operations of the Library at the State Correctional Institution at Mercer. As the Library Assistant, you will have the opportunity to supervise all operations of the institutional library in the Librarian's absence, fostering a clean and secure environment that encourages reading and learning among inmates. Your duties entail overseeing inmate work crews, preparing attendance and progress reports, and addressing inquiries from both inmates and institutional staff regarding library resources and programs. You will also handle daily callouts for inmates, ensure adherence to discipline and security protocols, and respond to inmate correspondence while processing library mail.
Additionally, you will maintain all library equipment in good working condition, verify the denied publication list, and visit the Restricted Housing Unit to provide inmates with access to a selection of books, fulfilling their reasonable requests for reading materials. You will assist the Librarian with training, scheduling, hiring, and terminating inmate library personnel, ensuring the smooth operation of library services.
