Northbrook Public Library seeks a Circulation Assistant

 

Full-time: 35 hours/week

Schedule: 

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 9-5

Thursday 1-9

One rotating weekend every 4 weeks

 

About the Position

Are you passionate about providing exceptional service and fostering a welcoming environment in a library setting? We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Circulation Assistant. In this role, you will play an integral part in our Circulation Department, ensuring a positive experience for patrons through excellent customer service and efficient handling of library materials.

 

A key responsibility of this position includes managing Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services. You will facilitate the borrowing and lending of materials between libraries, ensuring patrons have access to a wide range of resources beyond our local collection. This includes processing ILL requests, coordinating with other libraries, tracking shipments, and maintaining accurate records. You will also assist patrons with locating and requesting items through the ILL system and troubleshoot any issues that arise.

 

Under the supervision of the Circulation Manager, this position facilitates superior library service to patrons by providing Interlibrary Loan services, performing various circulation functions, and delivering outstanding customer support. Specific responsibilities will be assigned based on experience, skills, department needs, and the number of hours worked.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, including MS Office Suite, Google Workspace, and library systems. Preferred experience with OCLC, Find More Illinois, and Polaris LEAP.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with library operations, including circulation procedures, cataloging systems, and Interlibrary Loan services.
  • Understanding of Interlibrary Loan protocols, including OCLC and Find More Illinois systems, request processing, and coordination with lending institutions.
  • Experience handling ILL transactions, tracking borrowed and loaned materials, and ensuring compliance with library policies and agreements.
  • Prior experience in a public-facing customer service role preferred.
