The Cataloging and Serials Librarian (CSL) is responsible for creating and editing metadata records for library collection resources of all kinds. CSL also oversees ordering and receipt of serials, binding of books and serials, and processing theses/dissertations. The CSL oversees one part time student worker and reports to the head of Metadata Services.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Receive and catalog library collection resources (mostly print books and periodicals).
Catalog library resources according to national standards, such as RDA, LC Classification, LCSH, MARC21 formats, and other metadata standards, including local policies, procedures, and practices. Verify or assign appropriate classification numbers, subject headings and other access points as required. Enhance minimum level bibliographic records and create original cataloging records for new editions, as needed. Create new name authority records when needed.
Receive books in the mail and process in WMS and create Local Holding Records (LHRs) and create labels for physical items with correct location info for end processing. Correct and maintain LHRs, including location, call number, volume or copy designations, etc. as needed.
