POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Librarian provides library services and support to businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, and customers in the community. Proactively engages, communicates effectively, and develops collaborative relationships and partnerships with local business and community organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Utilizes and accesses information using a broad spectrum of resources, including print, electronic, and online resources.
• Provides leadership, training, and guidance to staff and the public in basic and advanced business services. Serves the specialized and diverse informational needs of small business owners, entrepreneurs, corporations, investors, job seekers, and business students.
• Provides leadership, training and guidance to staff and the public in the area of Adult & Teen Services.
• Stays current in relevant business services and materials. Identifies new Library and business trends, tools, and practices. Provides individual consultations on an appointment basis.
• Acts as a liaison between the Library and local businesses and organizations to promote Library programs and services. Participates in programs and events as needed. Develops and coordinates system-wide business-related services and programs.
• Establishes and maintains a working knowledge of local, state, and federal agencies as well as officials that license, regulate, or aid local businesses.
• Assists with the Library’s business collection through the recommendation of new materials.
• Provides Readers Advisory service for customers and remains knowledgeable on new reading and topic trends.
• Collaborates with Marketing and IT to add content and promote services relevant to adult services on the Library website and associated social networking sites.
• Coordinates and/or conducts the proctoring of exams.
• Prepares reports and statistics for review.
• Troubleshoots and resolves minor computer hardware and software problems.
• Periodically serves as Person-in-Charge (PIC), providing support for employees, customers, and facilities issues.
• Attends professional development opportunities.
• Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Uses relevant computer software to access information, answer questions, and perform daily tasks. Familiar with the use of database applications.
• Ability to effectively provide reference assistance and instruction.
• Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to successfully lead programs and give presentations.
• Strong interpersonal skills, working effectively with individuals of diverse cultures, communication styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
• Uses problem solving skills in determining priorities, finding timely solutions to departmental or systemwide issues.
• Service-oriented with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and the public.
• Successfully leads and/or collaborates on projects and programs with staff members.
• Takes responsibility for consistent completion and follow-up on all tasks.
• Responsive to change and demonstrates adaptability.

• Demonstrates a broader understanding of the job and looks for ways to improve Library services and support coworkers.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
• Master of Library and Information Science degree (ALA accredited college/university).
• Three years of library experience required.
• Prior experience in business environment/setting preferred.
• Bilingual proficiency a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Communicate with staff and customers in person and over the phone.
• May require either being in a stationary position or moving about for prolonged periods.
• Moves equipment or library materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
• Must have reliable means of transportation to attend meetings, conferences, and perform work at other locations.

Wednesdays 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Thursdays 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Fridays 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Every 7th Friday 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Every 4th weekend Sat 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
