Position Title: Bibliographic Instruction Librarian


Reports to: Director of Libraries


Supervises: Occasional supervision of Public Services Assistants and Library Student Assistants


Primary function: The Bibliographic Instruction Librarian will be responsible for the Library Instruction program within the library, providing library information sessions, reference assistance, and library visibility on campus. Will assist all patrons across campus in locating reference materials and resources. Assist with critical resources allocation decisions to meet patron needs.


Required Qualifications:


Education: MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution


Experience:


Minimum Qualifications: 3 to 5 years of experience working in a Library, with a background in education. Familiar with database research tools, MS Office Suite, and various Library Software. Strong and effective communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with different constituents across campus. Ability to effectively adapt to and use new technologies and troubleshoot patron issues.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience working within an Academic Library, knowledge of EBSCO Products and Databases, experience in creation and management of LibGuides through Springshare, knowledge of basic HTML coding for LibGuides.


Essential duties:



  1. Develop in-person and online library information instruction in collaboration with college and seminary faculty.

    1. Collaborate with all faculty in creation of Research Guides (Subject Guides and Course Specific Guides) to assist student learning and library interaction.

    2. Coordinate with the Campus Writing Program to schedule and conduct Library Information Sessions with all CORE 1500: Core Writing Courses.

    3. Conduct Library Information Sessions with other classes as requested by faculty, tailoring each session to the specific class with course specific search terms and relation to course specific assignments.



  2. Provide direct instruction to students, staff, and faculty through research consultations, reference interviews, library instruction, and workshops.

  3. Conduct other Library Orientation Sessions and tours (New Faculty Orientation, Seminary Orientation, etc.)

  4. Maintain statistical data regarding class sessions and reference services provided.

  5. Develop and maintain information and instructional materials both general to the library, as well as specific services, resources, or searching techniques by creating print materials (brochures and flyers) and electronic materials using LibGuides.

  6. Administrator of the Library Website

    1. Oversees and maintains the Library Web Presence on the MySV Portal and the Library Website (www.stvincent.edu/library) through Springshare LibGuides.



  7. Manage Circulation

    1. Implement Circulation and other Library Policies

    2. Manage the Library System (FOLIO) and maintain within FOLIO the Library patron database, overdue notice templates, loan rules, fixed due dates, and the calendar.

    3. Update Circulation Desk forms for the semester and make sure all forms are current

    4. Follow-up on materials not returned by students, faculty, staff, seminarians, and guest borrowers

    5. Prepare and send bills to the Business Office for large fines and for replacement of items not returned

    6. Maintain the cash box for the Circulation Desk, collecting and tallying of fines, making deposits of monies collected to the Business Office.

    7. Assist in review of collection, weeding items, and collaborate with faculty to determine collection needs.




Other duties:



  1. Prepare annual reports to provide for the Director of Libraries on Reference Statistics and Library Class Sessions

  2. Attend off-campus workshops and conferences in relation to Libraries and Information Literacy

  3. Assist within Public Services as needed, helping with the Circulation Desk as needed.

  4. Serve as a back-up for Interlibrary Loan

  5. Participate in Academic Orientation dates, manning the table at the Information Fair

  6. Participate in policy formulation and planning as requested

  7. Assist in the maintenance, selection, and access of electronic databases

  8. Attend meetings, training, and webinars in connection to reference and the FOLIO Integrated Library System

  9. Serve on College committees as requested

  10. Participate in college, seminary, or other campus-sponsored events and activities when possible
