CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
Incumbents in this classification perform specialized roles supporting branch and system-wide operations, technology systems, and interlibrary services. Responsibilities include coordinating branch-level functions such as desk scheduling, physical collection management, programming, and volunteer oversight. Additionally, incumbents provide administrative support for integrated library systems, remote services, system-wide operations, and technology infrastructure. This position emphasizes a lead, specialist, or coordinator role rather than direct managerial duties. Work requires limited supervision and independent judgment and discretion.
SERIES LEVEL: This is a mid-level classification within the library’s operational framework, designed to bridge direct service roles and higher-level management positions.

Displays professional acumen by being knowledgeable about Library industry practices, services; and patron-facing consumer and prosumer hardware, software, and other technology. Internalizes the mission by taking the initiative to self-educate in professional development and skills.
Advances the mission using common sense and critical thinking to achieve goals while amplifying team coherence.
Proposes improvements to Chattanooga Public Library operations and services.
Prepares and maintains accurate records, reports, presentations and statistics for assigned areas of responsibility.
Participates in meetings, committees, and task forces to represent the department or branch’s interests and share information.
Ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
Supports staff and public training efforts as needed.
Must meet regular attendance requirements.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES (if any):
When working as Branch and Department Assistant Managers:
Will perform all duties of the Library Services Specialist in an exemplary manner.
Coordinates desk schedules and ensures adequate staffing for public service areas.
Acts as the person in charge during assigned shifts, resolving day-to-day operational issues.
Oversees physical collection management, including inventory, shelving standards, and material organization.
Coordinates and delivers ongoing training for staff on branch procedures and workflows.
Manages branch volunteer activities, including recruitment, training, and scheduling.
Coordinates branch programming, including planning, preparation, and execution.
Tracks and maintains branch supplies to support operations and programming needs.
May be assigned to a department that primarily serves children, youth, and families.
When working as Technology/ILS Assistant Manager:
Performs administrative functions for integrated library systems (ILS), including Polaris, and discovery layers such as Aspen.
Manages remote services and systems, including holds pickup lockers and other related technologies.
Provides technical support and oversight for remote service systems, ensuring proper functionality and user accessibility.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to implement and maintain technology-driven library services.
Assists with the creation of reports and presentations about library usage and services.
When working as Operations Assistant Manager:
Coordinates interlibrary loan services, ensuring efficient processing and delivery.
Oversees the service aspects of remote holds pickup lockers, including maintenance and user support.
Manages remote patron accounts and associated services, ensuring accurate and timely resolution of issues.
Manages and assists with analyzing and improving operational workflows related to library services such as, but not limited to, interlibrary loan, remote patron services, and the community pass program.
Provides administrative support for patron user experience feedback.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of previous experience and/or training involving library operations, technology systems, or a related field; or any combination of equivalent education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of library principles and practices, including public service and collection management; integrated library systems and discovery layer platforms; remote service technologies and related systems; customer service principles and practices; basic supervisory principles; applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Skilled in organizing and prioritizing work assignments; managing schedules, workflows, and projects; administering technology systems and troubleshooting technical issues; maintaining accurate records and preparing clear reports; communicating effectively with staff, patrons, and stakeholders; providing training and guidance to staff and volunteers; using computers and related software applications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Positions in this class typically require reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 45 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
