Working Title:  Head of Reference Services
Job Summary: The University of West Florida Libraries seeks an Assistant Faculty Librarian (position #105900) to manage the Reference Services Department. Responsibilities of this position include supervision and management of the sub-units within the department: Instruction & Information Literacy, Interlibrary Loan, Collection Development, Scholarly Communication, Data Analysis, Outreach, and the Education Research Library. Regular work schedule is Monday through Friday. Position reports to the Dean of Libraries. This is a full time twelve-month non-tenure earning position with faculty rank and status.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in library science, or the equivalent, from an ALA-accredited institution and appropriate experience as a professional librarian consistent with university guidelines.
Position Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution in library science
3-5 years supervising library faculty and staff
Comprehensive knowledge and experience in research services
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Appropriate professional, academic library experience consistent with university guidelines
Preferred Qualifications Experience in an academic library
Experience using Alma and PrimoVE
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
  • 50% - Management of daily operations of the Reference Services Department, including supervision and management of the 6 library faculty and 3 staff members within the department. Supervision and management of the Education Research Library, the Program Manager, and student assistants assigned to that location. Oversight responsibility for development and completion of department annual objectives. - (Essential)
  • 45% - This position also has general reference duties and an assigned subject area. Duties include: serving as the subject specialist and liaison to the School of Education; providing group and individual instruction and/or information literacy instruction and activities; providing individual research consultations; providing reference and research assistance to library patrons through multiple modes of delivery, including scheduled shifts at the Information Desk; creating and maintaining library user aids, tutorials, and research guides within assigned disciplines, as well as selected general areas; selection, acquisition, management, weeding, and development of library materials, in all formats, for assigned subject areas. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
