The Timberland Regional Library is seeking energetic and outgoing candidates to fill the role of an Anywhere Library Specialist/LibrarianThis position will be based out of the Timberland Service Center in Tumwater and will work primarily in Thurston County but will be available to provide service to sites in Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Grays Harbor Counties. This role delivers high-quality library services and programming to the community, reaching rural and diverse populations and communities with barriers to accessing our current library facilities 

 

Our ideal candidate will be reliable and have experience in developing successful community partnerships through outreach, programming to youth and adultsand working with underserved patrons and communitiesThe skills needed to be successful in this role include being flexible, organized, detail oriented, the ability to work independently using good judgement and solving problems on-the-go. Candidates who have experience working with Latinx communities and are bilingual in English and Spanish are encouraged to apply. 

 

This position will be supervised by the Lacey Library Manager and will work closely with the Timberland Outreach Coordinator and Anywhere staff. The Anywhere Library vehicles (Ford Transit vans) bring library services to our diverse communities at childcare centers, community centers and gathering places, residential facilities, senior centers, rural locations, and schools. This position will drive to locations, lift, antransport materials and provide outreach services at offsite locations. Additional duties included helping with social media, placing holds and requests from sites, reminder calls and emails, vehicle upkeep and completing forms, checklists, entries, and collection lists for Anywhere sites. 


  • Schedule:  Full-Time, 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE).
  • Type:  This regular position is FLSA non-exempt, with excellent benefits.
  • Bargaining Unit:  AFSCME Local 3758.
  • Starting Pay For Anywhere Librarian:  The full pay range for this position is $28.88 - $39.98 per hour. Employees new to Timberland Regional Library typically start at step 1, 2 or 3 of the pay range, depending upon qualification.      
  • Starting Pay For Anywhere Library Specialist:  The full pay range for this position is $28.04 - $38.81 per hour. Employees new to Timberland Regional Library typically start at step 1, 2 or 3 of the pay range, depending upon qualification.

The Timberland Regional Library offers a Bilingual pay incentive for demonstrated fluency in the following languages: Spanish/Spanish Creole, American Sign Language, and in Thurston County only -- Korean and Vietnamese.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities



Class specifications are intended to provide a descriptive list illustrative of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
May be assigned any of the following duties:

  • Plans, delivers, and evaluates library programming and services for communities in an assigned region. Programming includes storytimes and programs or services for older children and adults.
  • Identifies and travels to community locations to provide library services from an Anywhere Library vehicle or at a pop-up library or program location.
  • Provides information, reader’s advisory, and circulation services to the community outside of a library facility.
  • Processes and delivers materials between library locations and to community stops
  • Acts as the person in charge of the Anywhere Library vehicle and ensures the vehicle is properly stocked and outfitted for daily routes.
  • Inspects assigned Anywhere Library vehicle, monitoring for safety and general operating condition. Coordinates with Fleet Technician to maintain vehicle service and maintenance schedule.
  • Works in collaboration with staff who provide in-library service to communities served by Anywhere Library team.
  • May provide training and guidance to other staff regarding Anywhere Library services as directed.
  • Completes accurate checklists and reports for mobile library records.
  • Performs all duties alone or with minimal assistance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Education & Experience


 

Anywhere Library Specialist: Bachelor’s Degree and at least one year library, outreach, customer service, or community engagement experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Anywhere Librarian: Master’s Degree in Library Science, and at least six months public library experience. In communities serving fewer than 4,000 people an equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. (Equivalent qualifications include bachelor’s degree & three years’ experience; or associate degree & five years’ experience; or high school equivalency & ten years’ experience.)

Licenses, Certifications, and Special Requirements:
 
  • Valid Washington Driver’s License is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Must pass and maintain a criminal background check.
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends and to adapt to schedule changes on short notice.
  • State of Washington Librarian Certificate will be required for Librarian positions serving a community over 4,000 population per RCW 27.04.055.

•    Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) to satisfactorily complete job responsibilities.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:


•    Work is performed in a variety of environments, including a vehicle, library, and community facilities, and involves regular contact with the public.
•    Work includes regular driving, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting/carrying objects up to 65 pounds.
•    Work includes frequent driving in all types of conditions and potential for exposure to seasonal heat and cold, inclement weather, and general driving hazards.
•    May be exposed to potentially intimidating and/or unreceptive members of the public.
•    May work alone in the library or in community locations outside of the library.
