General Description/Primary Purpose:

The Department of Resource Acquisition and Discovery, in the Thomas G. Carpenter Library at the University of North Florida, located in Jacksonville, Florida, is seeking a 12-month, non-tenure earning, Acquisitions Librarian. This position will report to the Head of Resource Acquisition and Discovery, Rebecca Harrington. Position responsibilities include responsibility for managing the daily workflow for processes related to the selection, acquisition, and data entry of purchased and licensed content. Resolves issues that impact or arise from vendors or other university units. Oversees the compilation of acquisitions statistics and collaborates with the Head of Resource Acquisition and Discovery and the Library Business Operations Manager to provide up-to-date information on resource allocations, the status of orders, and payments. Works collegially with faculty across the University’s academic disciplines, as well as with the librarians, to acquire library resources that are adequate and appropriate to support courses and programs offered as well as for its user community to conduct research. Manages the expenditure of material funds allocations within constraints of an approved budget.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee daily acquisitions operation, including coordination of workflow related to ordering, receiving, and claiming library materials; tracks expenditures and purchase orders as needed
  • Document and train others as needed in use of vendor and library systems to acquire or deselect information resources
  • Select and deselect information resources for the general collection, based on current and proposed academic curricula and discipline needs and practices. Collaborates with faculty and coordinates collection development internally with librarians
  • Monitor the collection budget, including assisting with reconciling campus accounting with internal library accounting
  • Work on accreditation/program review and statistical reports for college/departmental accreditation or review visits
  • Ensure good working relationships with Accounts Payable and address internal and external accounting issues as needed
  • Address vendor issues involving orders, receipts, and/or payments
  • Prepare budgetary reports on expenditures
  • Monitor usage statistics and financial information to identify trends and inform resource management decisions
  • Implement and utilize title selection and acquisition tools and software
  • Participate in formulating departmental procedures; maintains and updates acquisition procedures
  • Serve as library liaison for assigned academic department(s)
  • Contributes to overall collection development through participation in the evaluation and development of the collection and in the review and selection of library resources as appropriate

Other Job Accountabilities:

  • Participate in the planning and policy making bodies of the library and University as appropriate
  • Serve on library, University, and statewide committees or project teams as appropriate
  • Maintain awareness of current campus issues and developments in library and information science
  • Participate in training and professional development activities
  • Participate in library-wide activities and/or special projects as appropriate in consultation with supervisor

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library, Information Sciences, or directly related area of specialization.
  • A minimum of one-year experience in acquisition or any equivalent combination of Experience/training/coursework that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs
  • Basic accounting knowledge
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to learn intra-organization software systems
  • Demonstrated attentiveness to details
  • Experience with collection development activities in academic libraries
  • Knowledge of publishing industry license agreements, library acquisitions, cataloging workflows, and procurement processes
  • Experience in Ex Libris Alma ILS
  • Demonstrated familiarity with COUNTER and other electronic resources usage metrics
