12-Month, Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Librarian (Collections Management Librarian)

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Libraries are seeking candidates for a Collections Management Librarian, a tenure-track faculty position. The position is for an inclusive, user-focused, and collegial librarian. The Collection Management Librarian will report to the Head of Collections and Digital Scholarship and be located on the main campus in Allendale. 

The Collection Management Librarian, in collaboration with the Head of Collections and Digital Scholarship, will be responsible for making informed purchase and renewal decisions on databases and journals, conducting analyses of subscription resources, and maintaining strong relationships with our resource vendors. This role is crucial in managing both our physical and virtual collections to effectively curate materials that support our institution’s curriculum. They demonstrate a commitment to student success, an understanding of the liberal education mission, and work collaboratively and independently within a dynamic team-based organization. 

Additionally, the Collections Management librarian will: 

  • Establish and actively maintain constructive relationships with vendors and consortia members 
  • Collaborate across library departments to develop, implement, and communicate collections decisions 
  • As a tenure-track library faculty member, engage in scholarly and creative activities (e.g., conducting research, publishing articles, presenting at professional conferences) 
  • Provide regular service to the institution, profession, and/or community (e.g., university governance committees, professional organizations, etc.) 
  • Engage in regular professional development (with support from the Libraries and University) 

Qualifications 

Required Qualifications 

  • Master's Degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent time management and independent working abilities 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to customer service 
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills with the initiative to lead projects 
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing projects or operational activities. 
  • Familiarity with integrated library system functions for technical services. 
  • Knowledge of licensing and user rights 
  • Comfort working with financial and statistical data

Salary range: $55,000-$65,000; commensurate with experience
